Pontiac GTO

Pontiac is a long-standing manufacturer of classic muscle cars. The GTO is no exception. The GTO was a sports coupe designed by John DeLorean, who would later go on to design the cars seen in Back to the Future. While GM did not originally expect the GTO to be a commercial success, it was a hit. The GTO has a remarkable power output of more than 400 horsepower and is one of the most popular cars ever.

Bonneville

After 1981, both the Pontiac Bonneville & Catalina were canceled. Sales were already sagging and the second energy crisis had driven many new car buyers to more fuel efficient compact cars. Pontiac also stopped making the 301 engine. Instead, Pontiac began using Chevrolet engines. These cars are the last models to be made by GM.

FAQ

What length of an automotive course is it?

An automotive course lasts 3 years.

The first year focuses on theory and learning about cars. The second year will be spent in practical training. Here you will learn how fix engines, drive and other mechanic jobs. The final year is spent doing a placement at a local garage, which gives you experience in fixing real-world problems.

What are the different types of jobs available in car mechanic?

For car mechanics, there are three main areas for employment:

  • Automotive repair shops
  • Dealerships
  • Independent garages

Automotive repair shops

It's where most people start to think about becoming a mechanic. It's also the easiest way you can get started. You have two options: work in an existing shop or open your own.

If you choose to work at a store, you need to join a union. After being accepted into the union, the union will provide training.

After the training, you will be ready to go and start your job.

Register with the government if you want to open your garage. After you have registered, you will need to meet certain standards.

You will receive a license to run your garage once you have registered.

Your license will permit you to sell spares parts and perform minor repairs. It will not permit you to fix major engine issues.

As well as selling spare parts you will need to offer advice and direction to customers.

Dealership jobs

Most dealerships employ mechanics that specialize in one aspect of the vehicle. They might be able to only fix brakes or replace tires.

Some dealerships hire general mechanics to handle all aspects of car repair.

These positions often require applicants to undergo specific training before being allowed to work. This allows employers to pick the right candidates for their jobs.

Some dealerships hire students straight out of college. These graduates are familiar with the fundamentals of mechanical engineering so they can easily learn about cars.

Independent garages

Independent garages don’t have to be associated with any particular dealer. Instead, independent garages tend to concentrate on providing high-quality services.

Independent garages don't have to be associated with any particular company. This allows them to offer higher wages. This makes them generally more well-paid than jobs at dealerships.

Independent garages can be just as good places to work, but this does not mean they are better. Many owners prefer to control their businesses themselves, rather than delegating it to employees.

It is possible to work long hours, but not have any control over the day.

Expect to earn lower salaries than if you were working in a dealership.

There are many jobs that can be switched between. Ask your employer if you would like to work as a mechanic at a dealership.

Alternativly, you can apply directly to the garage owner if you are interested in working at an independent garage.

The bad news is that finding a new job isn't always easy. You can earn more depending on many other factors.

For example, the type of vehicle you repair and whether you charge extra for labor.

How do I prepare to be a mechanic apprentice?

It is vital to be able to comprehend what you are doing. You should be familiar with the mechanics of cars, and how they work. This will make it easy to find the right place to start your first day in the garage.

You will also need to learn how to fix simple problems like tires and broken lights.

This article will show you how to diagnose and fix issues.

Also, it is important to know how parts fit together so that you can put them back together.

And finally, you must know how to use tools safely and efficiently.

These things will enable you to be a competent mechanic.
