Requirements

HUDs are critical components of the cockpit, particularly when safety-critical manoeuvres or time-critical manoeuvres need to be performed. Without an HUD, pilots would have to refocus on both the interior and exterior of the cockpit in order to see information clearly. High-quality HUDs support avionics such radar and cameras. They allow the pilot to see his information with no need for him to focus.

How To

How to be an Automotive Technician

An automotive technician is responsible for vehicle maintenance and repair. He/she works at automotive shops, garages or service centers. He/she helps customers fix their cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, boats, lawn mowers, snowmobiles, tractors, trailers, farm equipment, planes, helicopters, jet skis, watercraft, bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, golf carts, etc. An automotive technician must be able to diagnose problems and make repairs quickly, safely, accurately, and efficiently.

An associate degree from a vocational school is required for anyone who wishes to become an automotive technician. After completing this program the student must pass the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence exam (ASE). ASE stands in for American Society of Mechanical Engineers. The ASE certification test consists of two sections. The first section tests for mechanical knowledge, the second for practical skills. To pass the test you must go to one of the authorized testing facilities. These locations can be found online, or by contacting your local car dealer.

A candidate must pass the state exam after passing the test to become an automotive technician. The process will vary depending on where an applicant lives. Some states require that applicants attend a training class, while others allow them freedom to study at their own pace. Some states allow technicians to become licensed right away after receiving their license. While others wait until they have had at least six years of experience as an automotive technician.

To become an automotive technician, one must apply at a local dealership. Most employees who are hired start as apprentices. Apprenticeships last for three years. A student will learn to repair basic things like changing oil, adjusting brakes or replacing tires. They also learn how spark plugs are cleaned and inspect engine compartments. Some students will learn advanced repair techniques, such as changing shocks, installing air filters, and replacing engines. Schools offer classes during business hours. Some schools offer evening classes, however.

After completing an apprenticeship, a student becomes a journeyman. Journeymen spend typically four to five years learning to install major systems such as transmissions and differentials, steering gear, suspensions and drive shafts. They also learn to perform complex repairs, such as remanufacturing engines, rebuilding transmissions, and troubleshooting electrical components. Employers prefer to hire journeymen as they are familiar with the job and can anticipate customer needs.

After passing the exams, candidates may be eligible to open their own shop if they pass all requirements. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (2010), almost 1.7million automotive mechanic jobs were on the market. This number was expected increase 18% between 2009 - 2020. If a candidate decides to open his/her own shop, he/she should prepare to invest many thousands of dollars in equipment and supplies.

There are many factors that affect the salary of an automotive technician, such as where they live, their education and experience. On average, a jobless person could expect to earn $20,000 annually. A high school diploma is all that's required to earn approximately $21,000 annually. An associate's degree earns approximately $24,000 annually. Technicians with a bachelor’s degree made about $27,000 annually. Master's degree holders make around $32,000 annually. Salary increases are common so professionals who make less than $30,000 a year could realistically expect to earn $40,000 over the next few years.
